Temerity’s Choker
Properties
Type: Mysterious Attunement: Unknown Value: Unknown
Visual Description
The choker appears as a physical manifestation of a root from a vision, featuring a distinct pattern of vines and roots. It has been noted by Gage as appearing “not natural”. The item possesses thorns that have been observed to draw blood from the wearer.
Mechanics & Effects
- Blood Feeding: The choker appears to feed on the blood of Temerity; thorns have stabbed him during intimate moments.
- Planar Anchor: The item acts as an anchor to reality; when the druid Muriel used ancient magic that attempted to pull Temerity away, the band tightened to keep him anchored in his current plane.
- Physical Constraint: In its original vision, the root prevented the victim from speaking or breathing.
Lore & History
The choker manifested around Temerity’s neck following a harrowing nightmare while he was unconscious at The Snoring Jackal. In the vision, he travelled through a deep, silent forest where a gnome-shaped tree entangled him. A freezing voice, sounding like splitting wood, accused him of lying and asked, “Why do you show lies?” before a root strangled him.
- Entry 23: The item first appeared upon Temerity’s neck after he collapsed from exhaustion.
- Entry 31: The choker’s anchoring properties were revealed when it resisted the magical pull of Muriel at Silvanus’ Beard.
- Entry 41: During the interrogation of Lyra Valstrath, it was noted that the procedure to release Auriel from the Ring of Orris is complex and fraught with danger, though the specific relationship between the Winter’s Core and the choker’s origin remains an active mystery.
