Lore & History

Formerly belonging to Orris Locke, the ring serves as a tool of immense power and a deep source of tension within the party.

  • Entry 16 (Discovery and Attunement): Discovered by Guido inside a mead bottle, the ring was identified by Theren as a necromantic artifact belonging to Orris Locke. Lavender attuned to it, experiencing a harrowing vision of her brother using its power to strike down and reanimate members of their own family.
  • Entry 17 (The Undead Checkpoint): Lavender utilized the ring to actively intimidate a defiant zombie clerk stationed in the secret lair beneath the Mayor’s Mansion. By leveraging its dark connection to Orris Locke, she successfully forced the undead creature to bow and secured the party an audience with the necromancers.
  • The Void Vision: During a battle in the Mausoleum (Alpine Forest), Lavender was banished to a cold void. The ring’s icy blue light filled the darkness, providing her a strange reassurance as a voice questioned her loyalty to her companions versus her goddess.
  • Entry 29 (The Cloudy Gem): When Gage presented a powerful, dark gem stolen from the Temple of Sol to the druid Halsen, Lavender noted its striking physical resemblance to the stones set within the ring. Unsettled by the visual connection, she defensively concealed her gloved hand to hide the artifact.
  • Entry 34 (A Celestial’s Fear): Lavender revealed the hidden ring to Anaphel, who reacted with visceral fear and recoiled, sensing a presence trapped within. Lavender recounted her dark vision of Orris Locke using the ring’s magic, leading to a tense but ultimately healing conversation between the paladin and the aasimar.
  • Entry 37 (The Goddess Trapped): The ring began to emit a freezing mist and an intense absence of heat. Upon investigating its chilling aura, Anaphel and Lavender hypothesized that the goddess Auriel herself had been imprisoned within the ring by the necromancers to tip the cosmic scales.
  • The Moon’s Grace: In Entry 39, the ring grew intensely cold and refracted the moonlight at Onasea. Anaphel refused to hold it, sensing the entity inside might be the trapped counterpart to Auriel.
  • Entry 40 (The Master’s Demand): The ring was explicitly targeted by the Master of Ash, who commanded the party to hand over “the ring containing the Winter’s Core.” Following the battle, Lavender retreated below deck to ponder this terrifying revelation and the ring’s true nature.
