Visual Description

The Winter’s Core is now confirmed to be the entity trapped inside the Ring of Orris. During the ambush by the High Priestess Lyra Valstrath, she displayed a magical image of the ring to identify it as the object sought by the Master of Ash.

Mechanics & Effects

  • Balance vs. Ash: The entity within represents “she who strives for balance”.
  • Intense Cold: Emits an unnatural absence of heat.
  • Release Procedure: Releasing the entity from the ring is a “very complex procedure… fraught with danger”.

Lore & History

The Winter’s Core is the central “competition” of the Master of Ash. By seeking the ring, the Master of Ash intends to destroy the entity within to “tip the scales in his favour” and secure his own power and vengeance.

  • Entry 38 (The Smuggler’s Secret): Corbin revealed that he was hunted by necromancers who were searching for an artifact known as “Winter’s Core”.
  • Entry 39 (Moonlight Resonance): The Ring of Orris began refracting moonlight and forming rime, leading Anaphel and Lavender to theorize that the goddess Auriel was trapped within.
  • Entry 40 (The Master’s Demand): The undead captain of the Frozen Wraith demanded the “ring containing the Winter’s Core” in the name of the Master of Ash.
  • Entry 41 (The High Priestess): Lyra Valstrath confirmed the Master of Ash has sought the ring to destroy his competition - the entity of balance inside. She identified her predecessor in this hunt as Magnus.

Acquisition

  • Obtained In: Entry 16 (Found unknowingly in a mead bottle).
  • Current Status: Currently held by Lavender in Port Adal.
  • Method: Reclaimed family heirloom.
